David Bustamante has confirmed his willingness to participate in the upcoming 25th-anniversary celebrations of Operación Triunfo (OT), directly contrasting with former winner Rosa López, who recently announced her refusal to join the commemorative events. The anniversary, marking the October 22, 2001 premiere of the show that launched stars like David Bisbal and Chenoa, is currently defined by this public disagreement among its alumni.
López expressed her discontent on social media, citing a lack of professional support and unpaid appearances in past specials as reasons for her absence. She stated, "Why do I have to be always?" . Her stance received backing from several peers, including Manu Tenorio and Javián. In response, Bustamante emphasized his gratitude for the platform OT provided, noting he holds "very good memories" and remains thankful to those who gave him the opportunity to start his career 25 years ago .
The production side, led by Gestmusic producer Tinet Rubira, has clarified the logistical status of the event. Rubira disputed claims that López was repeatedly invited but refused, stating, "Who called her? From Gestmusic we haven't called her to offer anything because there is nothing to offer" . He confirmed that while no specific date or format has been finalized, all 208 former contestants are invited to any potential gathering, which might take place around February 11, the anniversary of the final gala. Rubira assured that any artist required to perform additional duties would be compensated .
Bustamante declined to engage in the controversy surrounding López’s decision, respecting her personal circumstances while affirming his own positive outlook. When pressed for comment on the dispute, he replied, "Ask her, my love," maintaining a conciliatory tone . As of now, the celebration remains in planning stages, with the future of the reunion hanging in the balance amidst these diverging perspectives.
