Gabby Williams scored 26 points, including four crucial free throws in the final 78 seconds, to lead the Golden State Valkyries to a 68-64 victory over the Atlanta Dream in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals. The win gives the Valkyries a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Both teams struggled offensively, with the Valkyries shooting just 32.1% from the field and making only 7 of 33 three-point attempts. No other Golden State player reached double figures. The Dream managed just eight points in the fourth quarter, shooting 2-for-19 from the floor and missing all seven three-point attempts.
Game 2 is scheduled for Monday night at Chase Center. Both teams are seeking their first WNBA championship. The Valkyries, in their second season, became the first expansion franchise to reach the playoffs in their inaugural year last season.
