Sergio "Checo" Pérez has addressed speculation about his Formula 1 future, stating he expects to remain with Cadillac long-term. During a press conference ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Pérez said, "I see this as my project and I want to be part of Cadillac in the long term," while acknowledging that "there will be some conversations later and we'll see what happens" . This comes after a Japanese media report linked him to Williams, but those chances have diminished following Alex Albon's contract extension .
Pérez clarified that his initial agreement with Cadillac was for two years, but he expressed a desire to extend his stay. "When you start something from scratch it takes a lot of time, so I am very happy here and I hope to continue long-term," he said . Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss also expressed confidence in Pérez, stating, "I am very confident that Checo will stay with Cadillac and the Williams rumors don't distract us for a second" .
Cadillac recently appointed Marcin Budkowski as team principal, replacing Graeme Lowdon. Pérez welcomed the change, saying, "I think it was time to change," and added that it shows Cadillac's ambition to progress quickly .
Reports from Japanese outlet AutoSport suggested Pérez's representatives were exploring options with Williams, but the team's renewal of Alex Albon reduces those possibilities. Williams may also extend Carlos Sainz's contract, further limiting openings . Towriss noted that in F1, "things can always change," but no changes are planned for 2027 .
