Supreme Court Rejects Trump's Appeal of $5 Million Carroll Verdict

“The Supreme Court Monday declined to take up an appeal from President Donald Trump over a $5 million verdict and finding that he sexually abused and defamed E. Jean Carroll, a decision that means the president will now have to pay the magazine columnist.”

“Trump’s lawyers had argued that allegations leading to the $5 million verdict were propped up by “highly inflammatory” evidentiary rulings, including those that allowed the testimony of two other women who accused Trump of sexual abuse decades ago.”

“The justices turned away Trump’s appeal on Monday after a lower court upheld the 2023 jury verdict and rejected Trump’s arguments that the trial was unfair because the judge impermissibly let jurors hear evidence of his alleged past sexual misconduct.”

“The US Supreme Court will not hear an appeal requested by President Donald Trump to review the $5m (£3.6m) civil case that found he defamed and sexually abused writer E Jean Carroll.”

“Trump separately was found civilly liable by another Manhattan federal court jury for having defamed Carroll. She was awarded $83.3 million in that case, which Trump is appealing at a lower federal appeals court.”
