The Mexican government will hold a national teacher consultation on October 30, 2026, to determine the future of the Usicamm unit. This initiative fulfills Commitment 27 of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration and aims to reform the teaching career system. The Secretary of Public Education (SEP), Mario Delgado Carrillo, announced that the vote will take place during the Ordinary Session of the School Technical Council (CTE) for the 2026-2027 school year.
The consultation utilizes a hybrid format where teachers complete a diagnostic questionnaire on a digital platform, print it, and submit it at their schools. To ensure transparency, the Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES) has deployed 2,200 university professors as observers across 1,105 schools. Additionally, technical experts from six national universities verified the security of the digital system .
The results will be published on November 5 and will guide the reform proposal President Sheinbaum intends to present in November. Alfonso Cepeda Salas, general secretary of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), endorsed the process. He highlighted that a previous September 2024 survey of 673,902 teachers prioritized labor justice, professional respect, and corruption-free processes . Both outlets emphasize that high participation is crucial for the legitimacy of the upcoming legislative changes.
