Rafael Nadal has officially confirmed his return to competitive tennis by announcing participation in the MGM Slam exhibition event in Las Vegas on February 28, 2027. This marks the first time the 40-year-old former world number one will play in the United States since retiring from the professional circuit in November 2024.
Nadal will headline "The MGM Slam presented by Capital One" at the T-Mobile Arena. The tournament is scheduled to take place just prior to the Indian Wells Masters 1000 in California. While specific opponents and the full roster remain undisclosed, organizers plan to reveal additional players in the coming weeks. The event features a fast-paced format with matches played to ten points, continuing the style of its predecessor, The Netflix Slam, which Nadal attended in 2024 where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz .
In a video message shared on social media, Nadal expressed enthusiasm for returning to the city that hosted his final exhibition match. He noted that while he is in a different life stage without the pressure of the official tour, his passion for competition remains unchanged. "I have great memories of when I played in Las Vegas in 2024... So I am very happy to announce that I will be back in 2027," Nadal stated .
This announcement follows Nadal’s appearance at the tenth anniversary of his academy in October 2026, where he was seen rallying with former rivals including Andy Murray and Dominic Thiem. Although he admitted he was not ready for full-time competition immediately, the experience rekindled his desire to compete in exhibitions. The MGM Slam previously distributed $1 million in prize money during its last edition, signaling a high-profile revival for exhibition tennis .
