Macklemore kicked off his Free Palestine tour on Monday in Dublin, playing to a sold-out crowd of 13,000 at the 3Arena. The tour comes weeks after he was dropped from Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour following pro-Palestinian comments made on stage in New Jersey. Sheeran has said the decision was made by his promoter, not by him.
The Dublin show featured surprise appearances from Hozier, Kneecap, and folk band Beoga, who had also performed on Sheeran's tour. Video messages from actors Mark Ruffalo and Cynthia Nixon, and Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas were also played. Palestinian singer Lina Makoul and Palestinian American DJ Habibeats performed as well.
Sources differ on the death toll in Gaza cited in their reporting. BBC reports "more than 70,000" killed, while Euronews cites the Gaza health ministry figure of "more than 73,000" deaths.
