Puebla’s five major volcanoes are the focus of a new commemorative lottery billet, titled “Puebla, el Estado de las Montañas,” presented by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier and Lotería Nacional Director Olivia Salomón. The special draw, scheduled for November 29 at 8:00 PM, features a top prize of 11 million pesos distributed across two million four hundred thousand tickets .
The artwork on the billets was created by Poblano artist Aurelio Leonor Solís, depicting Popocatépetl, Iztaccíhuatl, Citlaltépetl, La Malintzi, and Sierra Negra. Governor Armenta used the event to announce a significant policy shift, requesting the creation of a decentralized public organism (OPD) dedicated to managing resources for the conservation and restoration of these natural areas . He emphasized that this initiative reflects a vision of collective development where state interest supersedes personal gain .
Alongside the lottery launch, the state government outlined plans for the “Ruta de los Volcanes,” a tourist route featuring guided ascents to the peaks via Santiago Xalitzintla, San Miguel Canoa, and Atzitzintla . To support this tourism push, Armenta directed the Secretariat of Public Security to reinforce surveillance in these areas. This security measure responds to recent reports of assaults against climbers, particularly in Atzitzintla, ensuring safer visits for alpinists .
Director Salomón expressed pride in representing her home state, noting that protecting these landscapes honors Mexico’s roots and contributes to national well-being . The event underscores a dual strategy of celebrating local identity through cultural products while implementing structural changes to protect Puebla’s ecological assets.
