The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has filed a criminal complaint against José “N”, a 37-year-old man, for physically assaulting a nurse at the Hospital de Zona No. 1 in Durango. The incident occurred in the emergency area when the aggressor arrived furious over phone calls regarding his 84-year-old relative’s hospitalization.
According to reports, the nurse, identified as Jessica “H” (aged 34 or 37 depending on the source), was working at reception when José began shouting and striking her back and neck. She insisted she had not made the calls that angered him. Witnesses alerted authorities via the 911 emergency system. State police from the 'Operativo Dragón' responded and detained José outside the emergency unit. He was transferred to the Attorney General’s Office of Durango facing charges of assault .
IMSS leadership condemned the violence, stating that no act justifies aggression against healthcare workers. The institute confirmed it is collaborating with state authorities to ensure the case is resolved without impunity. Immediate medical attention was provided to the nurse, who is now receiving psychological support and legal advice. IMSS Durango’s head has maintained direct communication with the victim to guarantee her safety during the legal process .
In response to the breach, IMSS is reviewing security protocols and evaluating the performance of surveillance staff present during the attack. The institute reiterated its commitment to providing safe working conditions for all personnel. José remains in custody while investigators determine the full extent of the legal consequences for the alleged crimes .
