Bedrock Robotics has raised $600 million in a Series C round, valuing the two-year-old startup at $4.1 billion. The round was co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, bringing the company's total funding to nearly $1 billion .
Bedrock retrofits existing heavy machinery—starting with excavators—with an autonomous driving kit. Since mid-August, these self-driving excavators have been performing paid work on live construction sites without anyone at the controls . Commercial operations are underway at a Nevada water treatment facility, a Texas earthwork site run by Champion Site Prep, and a large civil sitework project with Zachry Construction Corporation .
The company is addressing a severe labor shortage: it takes five years or more to master operating an excavator, and the Associated Builders and Contractors estimates that over 40% of construction workers will retire in the next five years . Bedrock's CEO Boris Sofman, a former Waymo executive, stated: "We have proven that fully autonomous excavators can perform real work of value alongside the crews and workflows already in place on job sites" .
Bedrock has more than doubled its customer base since 2025. New partners include Haydon, an Arizona-based contractor planning to use the system across advanced manufacturing, water, and data center projects . The company also hired Amy Jones Satrom (ex-Amazon, Nuro, Uber) as VP of operations and Lando Juarez (ex-Uber) as general counsel .
