Bobby Pulido, the renowned Tejano music icon, is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas District 15 as a Democrat, challenging incumbent Republican Monica De La Cruz. The election is scheduled for November 2026.
Pulido, 53, has spent over three decades in the music industry with hits like "Desvelado." He announced his political entry in 2025, aiming to represent his home region. Although he studied Political Science, he emphasizes grassroots campaigning over party machinery. His platform focuses on border security reform and regularization for contributing immigrants.
The contest is significant in a district where 80% of the population is Latino. In the 2024 presidential election, this demographic largely supported Donald Trump and Republicans, driven by concerns over border migration and the economy. Pulido acknowledges this challenge, stating he must win over voters who may not have seen a Democratic candidate in a decade.
Despite the Republican lean, recent polling suggests an advantage for Pulido. A survey by the Barbara Jordan Public Policy Center at Texas Southern University indicates a comfortable lead for the singer over De La Cruz. However, Pulido warns that victory is not guaranteed, noting that some northern counties in the district lack Democratic presence. He stresses that every vote is critical to prevent a loss.
Pulido’s campaign represents a shift in local politics, leveraging his cultural fame to compete in a traditionally red area.
