Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang unveiled a modular data center and announced new investments in Germany during the company's GTC conference in Berlin, even as neocloud stocks tumbled and concerns grew over the financial risks of Nvidia's extensive backing of AI infrastructure. Nvidia has over $170 billion in guarantees and commitments tied to neoclouds and other customers, according to an analysis of its filings by The Information .
Huang's keynote introduced the Vera Rubin DSX Pod, a container-sized, plug-and-play AI data center designed to be operational in 14 days . The company also announced a strategic AI cooperation with the German government, backed by a nine-figure euro sum, to advance industrial AI . Nvidia is investing in four German startups—Agile Robots, Avelios Medical, Mirelo, and Reflex Aerospace—as part of a nearly $10 billion commitment to European AI .
While Huang declared demand for neoclouds is "off the charts" , the sector faces a severe market downturn. CoreWeave shares fell 50% in six months, and its credit default swap spread soared past 11% . Nvidia's financial exposure is vast: it holds $99 billion in shares of companies that buy its chips and has off-balance-sheet AI cloud agreements totaling $36 billion, plus a guarantee on up to $105 billion for a proposed OpenAI data center in Ohio . Huang acknowledged a "scarcity of capital" but expressed confidence the issue will be resolved .
Separately, Nvidia is collaborating with German energy firm PreussenElektra to explore converting decommissioned nuclear power plant sites into AI data centers, leveraging existing power and water infrastructure . The plan does not involve using nuclear power for the data centers.
