The story of Thalía's iconic teddy bear dress has resurfaced following the release of an unauthorized ViX series about the Mexican pop group Timbiriche. The dress, which she wore during the 1988 Siempre en Domingo awards ceremony, is featured in the series' fourth episode, which depicts Thalía's arrival to the group after Sasha Sokol's departure .
Thalía explained in a 2015 Instagram post that she created the dress the day before the event. She found a black strapless velvet dress that had belonged to her sister Titi (Laura Zapata) and decided to transform it. Inspired by the scene in Cinderella where the protagonist makes her ball gown with the help of mice, Thalía sewed over 350 teddy bears onto the dress using a thick black elastic, thread, and a needle . The bears were placed on the front, shoulders, sides, and back, making the dress change appearance depending on the camera angle .
During the 15 Grandes de Siempre en Domingo ceremony, Thalía presented an award to Sasha Sokol. The presenter noted that Sasha's departure from Timbiriche had opened a space for Thalía. Thalía expressed her pride, saying, "Estoy bien orgullosa, de verdad de ser yo la de tu premio, ya que eres una persona que está llevando el nombre de México en alto" . Sasha recalled that the previous year she had presented an award to the group and that being on stage that night was a dream come true .
The ViX series shows a scene where Thalía, surrounded by teddy bears in her room, tells Sasha she has no intention of taking her place in the band . The dress, which contrasted with the formal attire of other artists, remains a memorable piece of pop culture history. Thalía later revisited the concept in 2021 for a Harper's Bazaar photo shoot and shared a tutorial for fans to create their own teddy bear outfits .
