The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) has updated its virtual price map to include data for Premium gasoline, completing the coverage of Mexico’s three main hydrocarbon fuels alongside Magna and diesel. This update follows reports that Premium prices had briefly exceeded 30 pesos per liter in some regions, prompting closer monitoring by authorities.
Current average prices vary significantly across states. In Jalisco, Premium averages 29.40 pesos/liter, while in Mexico City it sits at 28.75 pesos/liter. Nuevo León shows a lower average of 29.57 pesos/liter for Premium, though one Infobae report erroneously listed a much lower figure for Magna in that same entry, highlighting potential data inconsistencies in daily reporting. Diesel remains tightly controlled, with nearly 88% of stations selling it at or below 27 pesos/liter.
The pricing landscape is governed by an agreement signed in early 2025 between President Claudia Sheinbaum and the gas station sector. This pact aims to cap Magna gasoline at 24 pesos/liter. The regulatory oversight has shifted from the former Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) to the newly formed National Energy Commission (CNE), which assumed full authority in March 2025 to supervise tariffs and ensure supply stability. The CNE works in coordination with Profeco to publish daily updates, ensuring transparency regarding production costs, logistics, and international oil market influences.
