Manchester United avoided another defeat with a dramatic 1-1 draw at Fulham, thanks to a late equalizer from Matheus Cunha in the 89th minute. The result leaves both teams in the lower half of the Premier League table, with United in 12th place and Fulham in 19th.
Fulham took the lead in the 63rd minute when a shot from Calvin Bassey was parried by United goalkeeper Senne Lammens, and the rebound deflected off Lisandro Martínez into his own net. This own goal made Martínez the United player with the most own goals in Premier League history (three) . United had earlier hit the woodwork twice through Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha .
With time running out, Cunha fired a shot from outside the box that took a deflection off a defender and beat Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno . The goal denied Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa his first Premier League win . United manager Michael Carrick said, "I think we should have won the game, I think we created enough to win the game" .
After the international break, Manchester United host Tottenham on October 10, while Fulham visit Ipswich Town .
