The Dominican Association of University Rectors (ADRU) celebrated its 46th anniversary on August 20 with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Universidad Católica Santo Domingo (UCSD), presided over by Archbishop Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán and attended by Education Minister Rafael Santos Badía . The event highlighted ADRU's role in higher education and its support for the ongoing national education reform.
ADRU President Isaac García de la Cruz reaffirmed the association's commitment to the reform process, stating, "We welcome this process with a sense of responsibility and willingness to contribute to the national dialogue" . He emphasized that reform should preserve achievements while building a more inclusive and innovative system, and praised Minister Badía's National Consultation for Transformation of Education for fostering dialogue across regions .
Archbishop Morel Diplán called on universities to strengthen their social commitment, urging them to form professionals sensitive to societal needs. "The university is forming people with social commitment," he said, and questioned, "If we, rectors, are each on our own side and each seeking our own, who will think of the students?" .
ADRU also pledged to promote technological transformation and artificial intelligence, along with research, innovation, sustainability, and internationalization, to meet the demands of modern society . The celebration underscored ADRU's role in shaping higher education policy in the Dominican Republic.
