Harvard tops Shanghai ranking; China leads in volume

The 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), known as the Shanghai Ranking, places Harvard University first for the 24th consecutive year, followed by Stanford and MIT Source: El Mundo. Spain's decline

Spain has 30 universities in the top 1,000, down from 36 last year, with eight institutions dropping out and two new entries (Rey Juan Carlos and Valladolid) Source: Euronews. Latin America

In Latin America, Brazil leads with 14 universities in the ranking, including the University of São Paulo in the 101–150 band Source: Emol.
