V, a member of the K-pop group BTS, has revealed that he suffers from significant hearing loss in his right ear, a condition that worsened during his mandatory military service. The disclosure came during a live broadcast on the fan platform Weverse, where he was joined by fellow member Jungkook . The group is currently on their 'Arirang World Tour', celebrating their return to the stage after completing military service .
During the live, V explained the disparity in his hearing: "If I hear 100 with this ear, I only hear 30 with the other" . He noted that the problem began about two and a half years ago and has worsened over time . He mentioned that he is currently taking medication and visiting the hospital regularly, though he did not disclose a specific diagnosis or cause .
V said the symptoms intensified during his military service from 2023 to 2025. He recounted that those around him attributed the issue to mental toughness, influenced by the training environment. "Since then I feel like I hypnotized myself into thinking it was a mental strength problem" . He now treats it as a medical issue and continues seeking professional care .
The revelation comes amid the group's demanding tour schedule. After performing in Baltimore on August 10 and 11, BTS is set to perform at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on August 15 . The tour has seen other physical setbacks; in March, leader RM performed with a casted ankle after an injury during rehearsals . Additionally, Jungkook revealed a severe shin injury that could become a stress fracture, noting significant inflammation and microdamage .
