NYPD seizes 3,259 guns this year as shootings hit historic lows

The New York Police Department has seized 3,259 firearms from the streets of the five boroughs so far this year, according to an announcement that coincides with reported historic lows in gun violence during the first seven months of 2025 Source: eldiado. Between January and July, the NYPD recorded 381 shooting incidents, a 7.5% drop from the same period last year. Police response

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch attributes the decline to efforts to remove illegal guns, combat gang activity, and deploy officers to violence-prone areas. The department has made 25 gang-related arrests this year.
