A benefit concert in Miami, originally planned to raise funds for victims of earthquakes in Venezuela, has expanded its mission to also support those affected by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday. The event, now called 'Unidos por los nuestros' (United for Ourselves), will take place on Sunday at the Kaseya Center, featuring over 30 artists including Marc Anthony, Chayanne, and Ricardo Montaner.

Organizers announced the name change from 'Unidos por Venezuela' to 'Unidos por los nuestros' to reflect the broader cause. "The funds raised through the benefit concert and telethon will be used to support affected communities in both Venezuela and Colombia," the organization said in a statement. The initiative is led by CMN, Maestro Cares Foundation, TelevisaUnivision, and PIMIENTO Entertainment, with support from iHeartRadio, Spotify, and others.

Impact and context

The earthquake in Colombia has caused at least 240 deaths, according to official counts, while the earlier earthquakes in Venezuela (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5) left more than 6,000 dead. The concert will be broadcast on TelevisaUnivision and iHeart Latino, and will include a telethon and global fundraising campaign to support food, medical care, temporary shelters, and reconstruction.

Florida was chosen as the venue due to its large diaspora populations: over 40% of Venezuelans and 31% of Colombians in the U.S. reside there, according to the Pew Research Center.
