The director of the Dominican Republic's National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (INTRANT), Milton Morrison, called on new communication professionals to practice with ethics, responsibility, and a commitment to truth during his keynote speech at the eighth graduation ceremony of the Institute of Communication and Journalism (ICOPER). Morrison emphasized the challenge of ensuring information is truthful and backed by solid arguments amid ongoing debates about freedom of expression linked to the new Penal Code.
The ceremony was held at the Centro Cultural INDOTEL, presided over by ICOPER academic director Ysnardi Guarecuco, and attended by Deputy Carmen Lidia Williams of Samaná province. “«Ustedes tienen en sus manos una gran responsabilidad que llega en una sociedad dominicana en una coyuntura donde se debaten algunos elementos relacionados con la libertad de expresión. Algunos interpretan que hay artículos que limitan esa libertad, mientras otros consideran que esos elementos garantizan una comunicación responsable y vinculada a la verdad», expresó.”
