Pedro Sánchez has been a pilot for more than 20 years, while his daughter Lucía joined Vueling two years ago as a co-pilot. Father and daughter share not only a profession but also the same airline, Vueling. Pedro, a commander, describes his career as a vocation that remains as strong as when he started at 19. Lucía grew up listening to her father's aviation stories and decided to follow his path, though she emphasizes that her choice was personal.
Pedro's passion for flying began at age 17 when he took a course in his hometown of Ávila. His first solo flight gave him a sense of freedom that he says "really marks you." Both agree that being a pilot requires years of preparation and continuous study. "Being a pilot is not taking a course and starting to fly," Pedro explains. "It requires both physical and intellectual training."
Lucía, now a co-pilot, says her father gave her an inside look at the profession. "My father was a close reference who gave me the opportunity to know a profession that fascinated me," she says. Her father admits feeling a mix of pride and responsibility when she told him she wanted to be a pilot. One of their fondest memories is the first time Lucía accompanied Pedro in the cockpit. "Everything you hear from home you see in front of you," she recalls.
Both articles highlight that despite the challenges, their shared vocation strengthens their bond. Lucía now understands her father's experiences better: "Now I live the same realities and understand much better what my father told us about the profession."
