Dominican lawmakers seek halt to landfill in La Cuaba

A group of lawmakers from the opposition PRD and Fuerza del Pueblo have submitted a resolution to the Chamber of Deputies requesting that President Luis Abinader order the Ministry of Environment to halt any efforts to install a landfill in the El Aguacate community of La Cuaba, Pedro Brand. The move follows weeks of resistance by local residents, churches, farmers, and social organizations who argue the landfill would threaten a vital ecological zone and water sources.

The resolution, backed by 60 community leaders, calls for an environmental assessment to declare the area a protected zone.
