US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the Trump administration is working towards President Donald Trump's visit to India early next year. In an interview with IANS, Rubio stated that he expects to travel to India before the end of 2024 to prepare for the presidential visit. "We're hoping. That's what we're working towards sometime early next year to have the President come," Rubio said, according to The Hindu. The visit would come as the two countries are close to finalizing a bilateral trade agreement. "We're on the last inches of getting it done, and it's very positive," Rubio added.
The India-US relationship has seen renewed momentum following a meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. Rubio described the relationship as "fantastic" and "very strong." The two leaders have maintained regular engagement since Trump returned to office, focusing on trade, defence, technology, and Indo-Pacific cooperation. The Quad grouping, which includes Japan and Australia, is also expected to meet again soon.
