The Andalusia High Court (TSJA) has issued a final ultimatum to the Carboneras town council: it must complete the annulment of the building license for the El Algarrobico hotel within 20 business days, or the court will enforce the revocation itself. The order, reported by both ABC and Infobae, targets a license granted in 2003 to Azata del Sol for a hotel that environmentalists argue was built illegally on protected coastal land.
This is not the first deadline. The TSJA had already ruled in 2021 that the license must be revoked, but the council repeatedly stalled. On June 17, a plenary session voted to postpone the decision after seven councillors requested additional reports on potential financial liabilities. If the council does not act within the 20-day window, the TSJA may implement subsidiary execution, meaning the court itself will annul the license. Meanwhile, the provisional dissolution of the PSOE local group means its former members now sit as non-attached councillors, further complicating the political landscape. The alcalde, Salvador Hernández (Cs), now faces intense pressure to convene a new vote without further excuses.
