Venezuela's interim government announced it will use $200 million from its IMF reserves for reconstruction after two powerful earthquakes struck the country on Wednesday. The quakes, of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, hit the northwest and central regions, causing widespread damage and casualties. The government, led by Delcy Rodríguez, declared a state of emergency.
The IMF recognized Rodríguez's government in April, enabling access to SDRs previously frozen. The situation remains fluid as rescue operations continue.
