A UN inquiry has concluded that Israeli authorities deliberately targeted Palestinian children, resulting in genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in Gaza, as well as war crimes in the occupied West Bank. The report, released on Tuesday by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, examined violations against Palestinian children since the start of the war on October 7, 2023.
The commission found that approximately 30% of those killed in the Gaza war were children. The report builds on a September inquiry that accused Israel of genocide and implicated top officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in inciting such acts.
Israel's mission in Geneva rejected the findings, calling the report a "defamatory advocacy report" and a "libellous sham." In a statement, Israel asserted that "every child deserves protection" and claimed the inquiry ignored "the brutal tactics of Hamas." The Israeli government has consistently denied targeting civilians and accused the UN of bias.
